Fonte da Areia (water fountain)

Fonte da Areia (water fountain)

On an island with scarce water resources, natural springs are still extremely valuable. In the olden days, this spring had the tastiest water on the whole island, being inclusively used for medical purposes. The locals considered it a sacred spring.

Today, Fonte da Areia no longer outpours the water that it used to. Nevertheless, the wind insists on leaving its trail on the sandy rocks, offering anyone who visits the place an incredible erosion effect.

You can get to the spring from Camacha village, by a road that heads west towards the sea.
